Roush Fenway Racing rookie David Ragan led all NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers in crashes this season, USA Today says in its annual analysis of track incidents.
In analyzing the 36 races, Ragan was credited with 22 crashes and spins, for a rate of 61.1 percent. Robby Gordon followed with 16 incidents in 35 races in his Robby Gordon Motorsports Ford. Bill Davis Racing's Dave Blaney (14 in 33 races), Robert Yates Racing's Ricky Rudd (13 in 31), RYR's David Gilliland (13 in 36) and Roush Fenway's Jamie McMurray (13 in 36) followed on the list.
The newspaper's research, which is reported in Thursday's edition, also determined that while accident rates were up in 2007, the caution rates remained the same. It determined that 59.1 percent of all DNFs were caused by accidents with 31.2 percent attributable to engine failures.
Martinsville Speedway led all tracks in the accident column, with 28 in its two races. Lowe's Motor Speedway followed with 24 accidents in two races, and Richmond International Raceway was credited with 19 accidents in its two races.
