The preliminary entry list for Sunday's NASCAR Nextel Cup Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway includes 49 drivers, six more than will make the race.
Todd Bodine is driving the No. 4 Morgan-McClure Motorsports Chevrolet that has been driven by Ward Burton all season. Sam Hornish Jr. is attempting to make his second Cup start in the No. 06 Penske Racing Dodge, Sterling Marlin makes his second attempt in the No. 09 Phoenix Racing Dodge, and Burney Lamar is driving the No. 08 EM Motorsports Dodge. Bill Elliott is driving the No. 21 Wood Brothers/JTG Racing Ford, which is outside the top 35 in owners points. The team has access to a past champions provisional, if needed, to make the season-ending race.
Thirteen teams need to make the race on speed, including David Reutimann (No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota), Bodine, Hornish, Lamar, Marlin, Patrick Carpentier (No. 10 Valvoline Evernham Racing Dodge), Johnny Benson (No. 36 Bill Davis Racing Toyota), Dale Jarrett (No. 44 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota), John Andretti (No. 49 BAM Racing Dodge), Michael Waltrip (No. 55 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota), Joe Nemechek (No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevroelt), Brian Vickers (No. 83 Team Red Bull Toyota) and AJ Allmendinger (No. 84 Team Red Bull Toyota).
