More than 40 drivers are expected to take part when Nationwide Series testing opens Wednesday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as the series' teams get their first on-track test of the engine spacer NASCAR has mandated for non-restrictor-plate tracks.

Among the drivers expected for the two-day test are several Sprint Cup competitors who finished their test at Las Vegas on Tuesday. The test features seven former series owner and driver champions, as well as a few drivers who skipped the season's first test at Daytona.

"The agenda for the teams will be different than at Daytona," NASCAR Nationwide Series Director Joe Balash said. "It's the first time they'll be out on the race track with the tapered spacer in the engine versus the restrictor plate that we used at Daytona during testing over the last week.

"The teams also worked hard in the offseason to get as much downforce in these cars and make them turn better."

Among the former champions are Bobby Labonte, testing Richard Childress Racing's No. 21 Chevrolet for the first time, and Jeff Burton, who won the owners title with Scott Wimmer for RCR last year. Labonte will share seat time at the Vegas test with newly signed Stephen Leicht.

Mike Bliss (Fitz Motorsports) and Bobby Hamilton Jr. (Team Rensi Motorsports) skipped the Daytona test, but both are expected at Las Vegas.
