NASCAR cancels Friday activities at Atlanta
The drivers in the Chase For The Nextel Cup will all start at the front in Sunday's Bass Pro Shops 500 after all on-track activity at Atlanta Motor Speedway was canceled Friday because of rain.
NASCAR has announced a revised schedule for tomorrow that includes NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice at 9 a.m., Nextel Cup practice for one hour at 10:30 a.m. with the final session from 12:05 to 12:50 p.m. Truck qualifying has been rescheduled for 1:15 p.m.
Nextel Cup qualifying was canceled, and the field will be set according to the rulebook.
Roush Racing's Matt Kenseth will start on the pole as the points leader. Second-place Kevin Harvick will be on the outside.
A.J. Allmendinger's debut with Team Red Bull will be delayed as the team did not make the field once qualifying was rained out. Derrike Cope and McGlynn Racing, Mike Skinner with CJM Racing and Kirk Shelmerdine with his own team also failed to make the race because of the canceled session.
Bill Elliott, racing with the No. 37 R&J Racing team, earned a spot in the race based on his status as a past series champion.
