FORT WORTH, Texas - Ted Musgrave is hinting that he could return to Craftsman Truck Series racing next year with some old friends.

While not mentioning Ultra Motorsports, the team he won the title with in 2005 but which then ceased operations before the 2006 season, Musgrave addressed his job situation after qualifying in the third spot Thursday for the Silverado 300K tonight at Texas Motor Speedway.

"I am not going to tell you exactly what it is because there is one more key element that I'm missing, but let's just say it's going to be a throwback to a couple of years ago," said Musgrave, who is leaving Germain Racing after this season. "I'm kind of getting some of the band back together and have fun."

Musgrave's situation leads a silly season in the trucks that is well under way, including a recently announced merger of Wyler Racing and South Point Racing. In that announcement Monday, there was no indication that Wyler's Jack Sprague would return.

One possible destination for Sprague is Kevin Harvick Inc., which will announce its driver lineup today. That would give the team a second former series champion to drive alongside 1996 and 1998 titlist Ron Hornaday Jr.

Joey Clanton, who is driving about two-thirds of the season for Wood Brothers/JTG Racing, could move his Zaxby's money to another team. He could end up at Roush Fenway Racing, but Clanton said he couldn't talk about which team he will end up at next year.

"We haven't gotten it all finalized," said Clanton when asked about whether he was headed to Roush Fenway. "I can say I plan on running full time with Zaxby's as a sponsor. I'm just trying to get things tied up where it is a full-time ride with a top team.

"I'd love to stay at Wood Brothers. Being out of a race vehicle for three years and to get this opportunity to come back and run a limited schedule and chase for the rookie of the year title, it's been quite a dream this year."

Another driver whose name is being tossed about is Chad McCumbee, who is driving for MRD Motorsports and competed in Nextel Cup with Petty Enterprises for a couple of races this year. MRD Motorsports has worked with Haas CNC Racing this year.

"I have a lot going on right now," McCumbee said. "Petty Enterprises has given me an enormous opportunity during the summer, and they are working really hard on some really cool stuff right now.

"We haven't nailed down exactly what is going on for next year, but there is a lot in the works. Driving for this Haas development team wasn't initially the plan, but with the success we have had the past few week, it has started to open some doors. There are conversations going on."
