Veteran sports commentator Brent Musburger and championship-winning crew chief Andy Petree are among those who will be part of the ABC/ESPN broadcast team for NASCAR races, the network announced today.
Rusty Wallace and Dr. Jerry Punch, whom already had been tapped by the network for its 2007 NASCAR coverage, will be in the booth along with Petree. Musburger will be the host.
Allen Bestwick and Dave Burns, part of NBC's current team, will be pit reporters along with current ESPN reporters Mike Massaro and Jamie Little. For select Busch Series telecasts, driver Dale Jarrett will join Punch and Petree in the booth.
ABC/ESPN will televise the final 17 Nextel Cup races and all of the Busch Series events, with most of those on ESPN2.
ESPN is planning for a comprehensive pre-race show for all races, called "NASCAR Countdown." Musburger will serve as the host for all races on ABC and select ESPN races, including the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway and the Allstate 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Also on the show will be former NBA player Brad Daugherty and crew chief Frank Stoddard.
Daugherty and Stoddard will be part of ESPN2's daily program, "NASCAR Now," and will be joined by reporter Shannon Spake. "NASCAR Now" will also air a race preview show at 11 a.m. ET on race days as well as a postrace show the evening following the race.
ESPN also announced that Neil Goldberg, who has been with Fox the last six years, has joined the network as senior motorsports producer.
