There weren't that many bad calls on timing and pitstops.
LONG POND, Pa. - Jeremy Mayfield clarified his contract status, pointing out that he has no plans to move on since he is signed with Evernham Motorsports through 2007.
Mayfield, dogged by rumors that he's in the mix for several open NASCAR Nextel Cup rides, has repeatedly stated that he's planning to continue building his team this season. But it wasn't until Friday that he outlined the contract that he plans to honor.
After making the Chase For The Nextel Cup the last two seasons, Mayfield sits 34th in points after 13 races, 485 points out of 10th and a spot in the field.
"You do the best you can every week, and if that's not good enough or if we can't get the job done, in two or three years we might have to do something different," Mayfield said Friday at Pocono Raceway. "Right now I've got a contract with Ray through this year and next year and hopefully two more years after that. That's what my intentions are, to finish this deal out and do the best we can.
"I know a lot of stuff is going on right now in the rumors about different drivers, but hopefully we're not one of them."
