KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Burney Lamar says he has nothing negative to say about Kevin Harvick Inc., which announced earlier this week he would drive one more race in 2006 and it would not pick up his option in 2007.
"There's no hard feelings," Lamar said Friday while at Kansas Speedway. "They have done a lot for my career. They gave me an opportunity to make a name for myself. With that, I will go on."
Lamar is 17th in the point standings, having been benched for one race earlier this year as the team hired Jeff Burton to help evaluate the program.
Burton finished 21st in New Hampshire and Lamar finished lower than 20th in five of the next nine races. That wasn't good enough for team co-owners Kevin and DeLana Harvick as they opted to go with Bobby Labonte for the rest of the season except at Memphis, where Lamar will get one final race for KHI.
Lamar was second in the rookie standings.
"I wouldn't change anything," he said. "I learned so much this year. I learned a lot in the 28 races. I made some mistakes, mistakes I'll never make again. I'm very happy with the time that I had in the Busch Series and I look forward to driving again."
Lamar said he is still hungry to win. He believes he improved during the season, as he qualified better the second time at five of the six tracks where he has raced twice this year. His finishes, though, only improved in one of those six events.
"I'm only going to get better and better as I get more experience," said Lamar, who had three top-10s in his first eight races. "I look forward to having a long career in NASCAR."
