CONCORD, N.C. - In announcing sponsorship for the No. 5 Nextel Cup car by Carquest and Kellogg's through 2009, Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick said he also is hoping to lock up driver Kyle Busch for even longer.
Busch is under contract through 2008 after the team acted on a two-year option.
""We've got a pretty good multi-year deal with him anyway, but we're going to stretch him on out," Hendrick said. "My goal is to get all my deals done for the next at least three, four or five years anyway.
"We're pretty well along the way there."
Busch won twice during his rookie season of 2005. He is seventh in the NASCAR Nextel Cup point standings.
"We've been in negotiations since the beginning of the year, we've been talking a little bit about it so I don't know when it's going to come up, it doesn't really bother me," Busch said Thursday. "They extended their option for two more years."
He later added that "I'm happy to be here. I love to be here."
