Haas CNC Racing officials have announced that Dave Skog will be the crew chief for the team's No. 66 entry that Jeremy Mayfield will drive in 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup competition.
The team had previously announced that Mayfield and Scott Riggs would drive for the organization in 2008, and Mayfield drove the No. 66 in the final four races of the season, but the team had not said which driver would pilot which car next season.
Skog, 41, who previously led Haas CNC's engineering department takes over from Harold Holly as the team looks to improve on its 31st-place finish in the 2007 owners points. This will be a reunion of sorts for Skog and Mayfield since the pair worked together in the same roles on the Evernham Motorsports' No. 19 in 2002.
"Dave Skog has been with us for four years and has really impressed us with not only his knowledge, but also his passion for what we do," team general manager Joe Custer said. "Dave's tenacity for learning the [car of tomorrow] was a huge factor in our early success with that program, and he has firmly established himself as a leader in our organization."
Skog has been involved in Cup racing for 12 years, including working as a shock engineer and car chief on Richard Childress Racing's No. 31 with driver Mike Skinner and as a shock engineer with Rudd Performance Motorsports.
Holly and the team mutually agreed to part company.
"I appreciate the opportunities Haas has provided me and the professionalism Joe has demonstrated during my time here, but I look forward to pursuing other opportunities," said Holly.
Sponsorship for the team has not been announced.
- Mentioned Drivers:
- Jeremy Mayfield
