Green poised to drive for Riley-D'Hondt

HAMPTON, Ga. - David Green will drive the Busch Series season-opening race in 2007 at Daytona for Riley-D'Hondt Motorsports and possibly the full season for the team.

Team co-owner Eddie D'Hondt said Sunday that the new team has moved into its shop and working on finalizing plans for its Busch program next year. The team is planning to run two Busch teams.

Champ Car driver Paul Tracy was supposed to run a handful of races for the team next year but opted to concentrate on his open-wheel campaign.

Green, a former Busch Series champion, said he hopes the plans fall into place for him to run all season. Since being released from Brewco Motorsports, Green has been working with Robert Yates' Racing's development drivers.

"I'm not quite ready to be in this [mentoring] role full-time," Green said. "We're working hard, and it looks to be very promising."

D'Hondt said the team will announce which manufacturer it is aligned with in the next week. Speculation centers that it is Toyota, which also is expected to announce its Busch lineup next weekend at Texas.
