DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Brendan Gaughan's ride with Circle Bar Racing came relatively late in the offseason, forcing the Craftsman Truck Series driver to look elsewhere for gainful employment.

"I was gonna be a skiing instructor in Vail, Colo., at Vail Mountain," Gaughan said Friday at Daytona International Speedway. "I had the job all lined up for me and it was looking really nice. I was kind of excited about it. If it wasn¹t for Rick Crawford, that's where I'd be because I definitely wasn't gonna go pitch cards."

Gaughan may or may not have been joking, but landing as Crawford's teammate was a blessing for the truck series veteran. He drove his father's South Point Racing team the last three seasons, but after a merger with Wyler Racing fell through, Gaughan was left on the sidelines.

But Crawford and team owner Tom Mitchell had a seat to fill because David Starr left the team, so he offered Gaughan a job. And with Gaughan came crew chief Bryan Berry and other former South Point crew members.

"Rick Crawford is my hero and about half of the guys in my shop, he's their hero," Gaughan said. "They were out looking for a job in NASCAR at a very, very difficult time to look for a job, and Rick had the positions open. It was probably one of the toughest offseasons I've ever had in my life. It's probably one of the toughest couple of months I've ever had in my life."

"Thanks to [team owner Tom] Mitchell ... and Rick it does bring a tear to my eye though. But they really stepped up for me and my family and my guys, and I really appreciate it for my guys."
