AVONDALE, Ariz. - Tracy Hines has 52 career starts in the Craftsman Truck Series and 17 in the Busch Series.

When he left NASCAR after the 2006 season to drive for Tony Stewart Racing in Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown cars, he vowed not to come back to NASCAR unless the right opportunity came about.

That opportunity hasn't come, but Hines has had other things to deal with in 2007. He broke both his legs and suffered paralysis in his right foot for more than three months after an April dirt motorcycle accident on his property.

Hines has had five surgeries from the accident, which occurred when he was just riding on his property, lost control of his motorbike and crashed through a wooden fence.

Hines is to be back in one of Stewart's cars for the first time Friday at Phoenix International Raceway.

"I'm still fighting to get my knee to bend enough, and I had nerve damage in my right foot," Hines said. "It just seemed like the right time to come back."

Hines said he is content if he doesn't race in NASCAR again.

"Right now, I've made a commitment, and Tony Stewart Racing has made a commitment to me to chase three championships," said the 35-year-old Hines, who spent two years driving for ThorSport Racing. "That was the plan this year.

"Unfortunately, I didn't hold up my end, but Tony has promised my ride back. When I decided to leave Charlotte, I was only going to go back to NASCAR if it was the right opportunity. From what my stats were, I deserved, I felt, better than what I was getting. If that never happens, I'm completely happy to finish my career out in open-wheels, Sprints, Midgets."

His two best finishes in a truck were a fifth at Mansfield (Ohio) and a fifth at Richmond.

"I've done it, and it didn't go the way I wanted it," Hines said. "I don't feel any regrets, that's for sure."
