Fedewa working to stay in NASCAR

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Driver Tim Fedewa has been looking for a ride, but for now, he is working as Clint Bowyer's spotter.

Fedewa has been a spotter for Michael Waltrip in the Busch Series and a part-time spotter for Bill Elliott in Nextel Cup, but the Bowyer job will allow him to do both races each weekend.

Fedewa was recruited by Bowyer's spotter, Mike Dillon, also a former racer and currrent special projects coordinator at Richard Childress Racing.

"I talked to [Mike] a little bit, and I think they wanted a driver-spotter up there communicating with Clint," Fedewa said. "I needed a gig on both days. When Mike came to me, I was pretty interested.

"I raced with Mike in the Busch Series, and we've been friends. Hopefully it will work out good for us."

Bowyer and Fedewa worked together for the first time during Busch practice Thursday.

"I think that will be pretty good," Bowyer said. "He's been a good friend of mine ever since I started racing. It's unfortunate he doesn't have a ride right now."

Fedewa has four wins in 333 career Busch Series starts. He also competed in a Nextel Cup race in 1994.

"Spotting is the next best thing to driving," Fedewa said. "If I can't drive, I want to at least spot. I feel I can give pretty good input."

Mentioned Drivers: Bill Elliott
