Fans injured during Busch Series race

CONCORD, N.C. - Two fans were hit by what was believed to be a shock from the crashing No. 49 Jay Robinson Racing car of Randy LaJoie during the Carquest Auto Parts 300 Busch Series race on Saturday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

The unidentified adults were taken to nearby Northeast Regional Medical Center, according to track senior vice president of events Jerry Gappens. One had a laceration to the lower arm/wrist, the other had a lower leg laceration, Gappens said.

The people injured were sitting about 15 rows up in Section J of the Chrysler grandstands off Turn 4 just across the entrance to pit road, according to Seth Aegerter, a fan from Ohio sitting about five rows above where the piece landed. There was a dent in the bleacher on Row 15 where the piece struck.

Aegerter said he believes it was a shock that flew into the stands.

"I saw it come fly in from down there [on the track] and I saw it spinning through the air," Aegerter said. "I've never seen anything like that."

LaJoie was involved in a single-car accident on lap 178 of the NASCAR race.
