Evernham looking down the road [course] with Kahne
Evernham Motorsports owner Ray Evernham has an ace in the hole to get red-hot Kasey Kahne ready for the upcoming NASCAR Nextel Cup road course races: Boris Said.
Said, a veteran road racer and occasional NASCAR Cup competitor, is working as a consultant to help Evernham's drivers - Kahne, Jeremy Mayfield and Scott Riggs - get ready for those winding tracks that can be tough on younger drivers.
Kahne, a two-time winner already this season who sits third in the driver standings, is in only his third year of Cup competition and has only a handful of visits to the two road circuits, Infineon Raceway in California and Watkins Glen International in New York.
"We're a little bit concerned about some of the road-course stuff coming up, and Boris Said is going to help us with that because that's where Kasey has the least experience," Evernham said.
He has no doubt, though, that Kahne, who turns 26 today, will be up to the challenge.
"I think the first time at Martinsville we ran terrible," Evernham said. "The second time we ran second, and he was going to probably be in the top five last weekend if we hadn't had that motor problem, so he learns quickly."
