FORT WORTH, Texas - Carl Edwards clinched the 2007 Busch Series championship with two races remaining while Kevin Harvick won the O'Reilly Challenge on Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway.
Edwards finished 11th while Michael Waltrip Racing's David Reutimann finished 18th, giving Edwards a 552-point lead. The most Reutimann could gain in two races would be 390 points.
Edwards has four wins and 14 top-five finishes in 33 races this year.
"This is pretty cool," the 28-year-old Edwards said. "Hopefully, it's one of many but we're going to try and do it again next year and try to do even better. We've had a lot of really great fortune this season and we've had a lot of bad fortune this season.
"This took a little bit longer than we thought. I'm just very, very grateful for all the people who have given me opportunities and I'm so glad to be here."
Edwards could have clinched in the previous two races. He entered Texas having had horrible results with finishes of 38th, 33rd and 25th in the last three events.
It was Roush Fenway Racing's second Busch title, with Greg Biffle having won the championship for Roush Racing in 2002.
Edwards was the 2005 Rookie of the Year when he finished third in the overall standings. He was second last year.
His title marked the second consecutive Busch title won by a Nextel Cup regular. Kevin Harvick won it last year.
While Edwards won the Busch Series title, the owners championship is still up for grabs. The No. 29 Richard Childress Racing team has a 113-point lead on the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team. Edwards' No. 60 Roush Fenway team is 259 points behind RCR.
