Former NASCAR regular Erin Crocker has won the 2007 ARCA Re/Max Superspeedway Challenge Championship, becoming the first female driver in 55 years to take the award.
The superspeedway award honors the team and driver that accumulates the most points on superspeedways in a season. This year, the 23-race series schedule included 12 superspeedway events. Previous winners of the award include Davey Allison, who won the title in its 1984 debut season, Jeff Purvis, Mike Wallace and Frank Kimmel.
Crocker finished 21st overall in the standings. Kimmel won the 2007 series championship. Michael Waltrip Racing development driver Michael McDowell was named the rookie of the year.
Crocker and team owner Ray Evernham were honored during the series' annual banquet Saturday night in Covington, Ky.
Crocker has been a NASCAR competitor in both the Busch and Craftsman Truck Series ranks. She ran partial schedules in both series in 2005 and again in 2006 in the Busch Series, a year when she competed full time in the truck ranks for Evernham Motorsports. She finished 34th in the series standings that season.
