Charlotte lands Hall of Fame
NASCAR will announce the selection of Charlotte for its Hall of Fame at a press conference Monday, sources tell The Charlotte Observer.
Charlotte, Daytona Beach and Atlanta were the three cities remaining in the contest to land the $100 million-plus facility. NASCAR officials have long held that the announcement of the Hall's site would be made in March.
According to the Observer, the $137.5 million facility would be paid for largely through a 2-percentage-point increase in Mecklenburg County's tax on hotel rooms, as well as contributions from state government and local companies. All but $15 million, the story says, would be public money.
