While this weekend's events at Gateway International Raceway have been canceled, the July 29 NASCAR Busch Series schedule has not been altered, according to a note posted on the track's Web site.
In a news article on the track's Web site credited to Joe Zydlo, Gateway's director of public relations, "Due to the severe storm and the subsequent damage that was done at Gateway International Raceway on Wednesday night July 19, this weekend's drag racing activity will be canceled. ... All events and activities scheduled for next weekend's NASCAR Busch Silver Celebration 250 presented by Shop 'n Save and the Shop 'n Save 150 ARCA Race are moving forward on schedule and on plan."
A storm system in the area has left more than 300,000 homes and businesses without power and National Guard troops have been called in to help check on elderly residents and pass out water, according to a report on Foxnews.com. The story says that the power company said it could be four days before power is restored to the area.
