Busch, Cup won't be on same tires at Daytona
SPARTA, Ky. - When NASCAR returns to Daytona International Speedway in two weeks, it will be the first time this year that the Busch Series and Nextel Cup Series cars will not run with the same tire at a companion event.
The Busch Series cars will use the tire they had at Talladega, while the Nextel Cup guys will run the tire they had earlier in the year at Daytona.
Busch Series cars had tire problems at Daytona, partly because they use a different aerodynamic package than the Cup cars at the restrictor-plate tracks.
The Talladega tire was used during a tire test at Daytona by David Green and John Andretti in early May.
"It's a little bit harder," said Chad Fletcher, Goodyear's marketing manager for the Busch Series. "It's in the same family as the Daytona tire - they're both in the superspeedway category - but the Talladega tire is just a little bit harder.
"The harder tire will increase the durability in the tire, and the wear should go down."
