Brewco Motorsports, in cooperation with Stanton Barrett Motorsports, will attempt to field a No. 95 Nextel Cup car for Casey Atwood in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway next month.
"Every year we've said we're going to run 10 races," Brewco Motorsports President Todd Wilkerson said Thursday. "With all these Cup drivers getting the extra practice, we felt it was a good time [to enter]."
Wilkerson said the team is working on putting together a sponsorship package for 10 races next season and has had very preliminary discussions with Barrett about trying to team up to field a car throughout the entire 2007 season.
The team, which will enter a Ford, will have sponsorship from one of Kleenex's brands for the Homestead race.
Atwood, who replaced David Green in the No. 27 Busch Series car last month, will drive the remainder of the Busch races this season and the Cup race at Homestead, Wilkerson said.
"We haven't made a 100 percent decision on next year," Wilkerson said. "We don't have to decide right now, so we're not going to."
Atwood tested at Homestead earlier this week and ran well. Shawn Parker will oversee the program, but Busch Series crew chiefs Newt Moore and Stewart Cooper also will play pivotal roles in the setup and on race day, Wilkerson said.
Brewco last ran a Cup race in 2004, when David Green qualified for the September event.
