Bass Pro Shops officials announced Saturday that the company has signed a three-year agreement to sponsor Martin Truex Jr. in the Dale Earnhardt Inc. No. 1 Chevrolet through the 2010 Nextel Cup season.

"We sure have a great deal of respect for Dale and Teresa Earnhardt and what they created and we are very proud and very happy to have the opportunity to carry on with the special relationship we have enjoyed for many years. We are confident in the leadership of DEI and Martin Truex Jr. and the capabilities of this team," Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris said in a statement. "Martin is not only a great driver but is also a great fit for us because of his love for hunting and fishing and his concern for conservation."

Bass Pro Shops joined forces with DEI in 2003 with a part-time sponsorship of Truex and the No. 8 of Dale Earnhardt Jr. car in several NASCAR Busch Series races. Truex captured back-to-back Busch Series championships with the group in 2004 and 2005. Truex is ninth in the Nextel Cup standings this season.

"Bass Pro Shops has been an awesome sponsor for me," stated Truex. "I have become real close with Johnny Morris and all the people at Bass Pro Shops and I wouldn't want anyone else to sponsor my race car right now. I feel like we have built a great relationship."
