Agajanian team will not appeal crew chief's suspension

HOMESTEAD, Fla. - Curb-Agajanian Motorsports co-owner Cary Agajanian said Friday his team was not likely to appeal the indefinite suspension NASCAR handed down to crew chief Joe Shear Jr. after last weekend's Arizona.Travel 200.

Shear Jr. was also fined $10,000 after NASCAR officials found the rear quarterpanels on the No. 43 Dodge - picked as the "random" car to be inspected after the race - to be too high.

While Agajanian said his team will "abide their ruling," he said there were extenuating circumstances. Driver P.J. Jones was hit in the rear twice, Agajanian said, with one accidental hit by Jason Leffler that buckled the quarterpanels.

"Before that, we were obviously in the proper dimensions," Agajanian said. "After that, we were out of it. ... I don't want anybody to get the feeling that we had some improper parts on our car, because it wasn't. "I was told it was strictly the way the car was measured after the race. I thought if the car had gotten hit, then that would be the reasoning behind it, but it wasn't. So there must be something else."

Busch Series Director Joe Balash said the long overall template fit after the race, indicating the surfaces of the rear of the car were in the same place.

"The bottom of the fender, yes, was bent," Balash said. "But it didn't affect the top part of the fender. And it wasn't like [the measurement] was a little bit and close. The quarterpanels were way out of the range we give the teams."

The team apparently made too many adjustments to the jacking bolt on the car, causing to raise an inch higher than it should have been.

Mentioned Drivers: Jason Leffler
