DOVER, Del. – Lance McGrew will call the race for Hendrick Motorsports driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and make the decisions when to pit and how many tires to put on the car while team manager Brian Whitesell will make the calls on setup adjustments in the Autism Speaks 400, Hendrick competition director Ken Howes said Sunday afternoon at Dover International Speedway.

Whitesell remains the listed crew chief for the race, so if there would be any NASCAR penalties as far as the car or the team, Whitesell would be the one penalized.

“Lance will be the voice and Brian will be making decisions [as well],” team owner Rick Hendrick said.

Hendrick replaced Earnhardt Jr. crew chief Tony Eury Jr. with McGrew, but the change was supposed to be effective next week at Pocono Raceway because Whitesell was involved in the set up of the Earnhardt Jr. car and McGrew was supposed to crew chief for Brad Keselowski. But Keselowski failed to qualify for the race, leaving McGrew available to help Earnhardt Jr.
