TALLADEGA, Ala.Kyle Petty will race for Petty Enterprises in November at Phoenix International Raceway, but will he return to the team in 2009?

Petty Enterprises Executive Vice President Robbie Loomis said the future is still to be determined and if Petty could find more races somewhere else, he could drive for another team next year.

Petty has talked in the past about possibly doing a part-time schedule next year, either with the Pettys or somewhere else. He already has committed to be in the telecast booth for TNT during its six events. Some of Petty’s sponsorship are tied to him as a driver.

“We’ve got to look at Petty Enterprises and where we’re going with the future, but at the same time Kyle Petty has to look at Kyle Petty himself and I’m sure if the opportunity comes up and somebody’s got a good situation for him to run a full schedule, I would think Kyle probably would want to do it barring he still gets to do his TV races,” Loomis said Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway.

Chad McCumbee will run the remainder of the races starting with next week at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with the exception of Phoenix, Loomis said.

Richard Petty sold a majority of the team to Boston Ventures, an investment firm, earlier this year.

“It’s time for everybody to have a fresh start and evaluate where we’re at and what we need to go as we go forward to make sure that we’re improving,” Loomis said.

Loomis said he really likes McCumbee, who will be evaluated for the rest of the season to determine if he will be signed for 2009.

Mentioned Drivers: Chad McCumbee

Loomis has all but said no Petty will be racing for the team in 2009.Kyle hasn't been a winner and sooner or later the driver pays the price.thats fair.

I am a Kyle Petty fan I think Petty Inc. is treating him pitiful, maybe he would race better if he had better cars. If a Petty isn't in a Petty Inc. car I will change to another driver (kyle if he gets a ride) I will not be a Petty Inc. fan. I am disappointed in Robbie Loomis I liked him but not the way he has treated Kyle after the merger.
