NASCAR and Sprint are among defendants in another patent lawsuit over the technology used to power the popular FanView handsets used by spectators to watch races and listen to scanner traffic and television broadcasts at the race track.

Front Row Technologies field suit Monday in U.S. District Court in Texas against NASCAR, Sprint, the NFL, DirecTV and FanView technology developer Kangaroo Media.

Front Row alleges that its patents for “providing multiple perspectives for a venue activity through an electronic hand held device” and “broadcasting venue data to a wireless hand held device” have been infringed upon by the sales of FanView and the Kangaroo TV handsets used at select NFL cities.

Sprint released the following statement in response to the lawsuit: "We are aware of the litigation that has been filed. We are reviewing the allegations, and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

NASCAR, Sprint and Kangaroo had settled a suit with Immersion Entertainment earlier this year over patents for “audio/video signal distribution for head mounted displays” and “audio/visual system and method utilizing a head mounted apparatus with noise attenuation.” Kangaroo agreed to pay Immersion at least $3 million to settle the lawsuit, according to a company news release issued at that time.

Why can't we all get a long?

I would sue them to if they were making more money than I was if it was my idea.

maybe the fans should be part of this lawsuit to recover the frivolous 10.00 dollar activation charge they are fleeced out of at every race. nothing happens during activation all you have do is turn on the unit. this PROFIT stream for sprint and allies is another example of sleazy business practices by a cell phone company headed for extinction. what happens to our fans who purchased these units? plain old scanners don"t cause these type of lawsuits!
