Hendrick Motorsports’ Jeff Gordon helps out with ‘Extreme Makeover’
Hendrick Motorsports driver Jeff Gordon is helping build a home – for someone else.
The four-time NASCAR Cup champion is the celebrity builder for this week’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” build in Loris, S.C., local officials announced Monday. A date for Gordon's appearance on the show, which airs Sunday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC, has yet to be announced.
The show’s design team and the local community will help turn the house of Amanda and Derrick Suggs into a safer, stronger home.
When Derrick, a police officer, and Amanda got married, they moved into the home Derrick inherited from his grandfather. Built by his grandfather in 1953, the home came with a long list of repairs required to make it livable: a leaking roof, outdated and exposed electrical wiring, rotting foundation and broken and cracked asbestos siding on the outside of the house.
The couple had just started a family five years ago when they adopted Amanda’s three younger siblings (now ages 10, 17 and 19) to prevent them from being separated in foster care. The Suggses also have two children, ages 5 and 9 months.
