BRISTOL, Tenn. – Team owner Doug Yates is still seeking sponsors for Travis Kvapil and David Gilliand for 2009.

The Yates teams are 24th and 26th in the owner standings and have pieced together partial sponsorships throughout this season.

“Hopefully we can nail some things down where we can make some announcements,” Yates said. “It’s come a long ways. I think it’s looking a lot better.

“We’re trying to [sell] our teams [to sponsors] with our drivers in place. That’s our primary objective. They have done a nice job for us this year and we are working on building some quality teams here.”

Yates indicated that the team has had conversations with Paul Menard, who could bring the family sponsorship from Dale Earnhardt Inc.

Menard said Friday that he has not made a decision on next year. Yates said Saturday that his organization’s focus right now is on Kvapil and Gilliland.

“That [Menard deal] is something that a lot of people have looked at,” Yates said. “Our primary objective is to sell what we have now and we’ll see how it unfolds.”

Yates said the goal is to have two cars again next year.

“We pieced it together this year and made it happen,” Yates said. “Hopefully we can solidify some stuff, and even if we don’t get two fully solid, we feel if we can get close to that, we can keep it going.”

I like Yates and I like these drivers-- especially Kvapil. Impressive performances-- considering you know they don't have all the top notch gear, support and crew members. To see Travis riding around in the Top 10 or Top 15 with a completely WHITE car devoid of all sponsorship was a wonder to behold earlier this year. It's time, though, that sponsors get serious with Yates. They can recapture previous glory with solid sponsorship dollars. I am AMAZED at the number of 35 and up cars with sponsors and these buys have to struggle to make ends meet. It's a shame and should be rectified.

I can't see either leaving, simply because most of the seats are filled. It's really either they stay or leave Cup (or go to a very subpar team), and I know which one I'd pick..

I agree and hate to see teams that we know are good struggle like Pettys, Woods etc. just takes too much $money$ It just looks like feast or famine nowadays and has complety shut down some good ones that started long ago with Bud Moore.

I believe the sponsors want big name drivers and drivers they know can stay in the top 10 to 15 in the points. They want drivers they think can make them money as well as a possible championship. Even though they have run ok this year sponsors will probably not be rhere for them. two or three good races are not going to get it for Yates.

My heart goes out to the Yates group they have been competitive here and there this year on a beer budget. Only MWR seems to be able to put up no results for the sponsor's and still drink from the Full ride support glass. Menard is a whole other story. I wish my Daddy could buy me a ride. Unless Paul M. had full financial backing do you think he would be in Cup or ARCA? I wounder how much respect he gets in the garage from his fellow drives knowing that fact....
