Yates Racing today announced that the Golden Corral restaurant chain will sponsor Travis Kvapil in the No. 28 Ford as he attempts to make the field for the Daytona 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup season opener.

"I can't wait to get back down to Daytona," Kvapil said. "It's been a long offseason without any testing, and I think I speak for all the guys on the No. 28 team, but we are all chomping at the bit to get back down there.”

Kvapil, 32, starts the season without any owner points to lock him into the field for the race. Although he finished 23rd last season, the points from his car were transferred to the No. 98 of new teammate Paul Menard during the offseason, meaning that Kvapil needs to earn a spot in the Daytona 500 either based on qualifying speed or through one of the qualifying races.

Kvapil, a native of Janesville, Wis., has six top-10 finishes and one career pole in the Cup series. He earned the pole position in the restrictor-plate race at Talladega Superspeedway last fall. He is the 2003 Truck series champion and plans to run at least a limited schedule with Yates Racing this season.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
