Yates Racing's David Gilliland and Travis Kvapil are pleased with the progress within their organization, and each thinks that things could continue to improve in the upcoming race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Competing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in cars with limited sponsorship this season, Kvapil is 21st in the standings and Gilliland is 25th. Gilliland earned a career-best finish of second at Infineon a few weeks ago and is looking to continue to gain momentum as the series enters its final 17-race stretch.

Unlike some drivers, he's not too thrilled to see the off weekend on the schedule.

"We always want to be in the car," he said. "Momentum’s hard to get, and I feel like we’ve got some here lately. We’ve been as competitive as we’ve ever been, if not more, the last few weeks, so it’s been good. I think that Yates Racing is building on that and taking advantage of the momentum and doing, really, everything we can with it.”

He says that the team has definitely improved in some areas and that he expects even better things for the team as it heads to many of the series' tracks for the second time this season.

Kvapil, too, says that breaks in the schedule aren't always something to be desired, though he recognizes that the crew needs a breather. He's just eager to try to get his team in the top 20 in the standings.

"I guess when things are going good you like to just try to keep that momentum rolling nice," he said. "You hate to have a bad week or race, though, and then have a weekend off. If you do have bad week, you want to get back to the track and try to redeem yourself. But, everybody likes a weekend off. It can go either way. It’s going to be great for me. I’m going to stay up in the Midwest and see my family [this] weekend. But, it just kind of depends on how you’re going. If you’re struggling a little bit, maybe it’s a good opportunity to address some issues, but at that same time, if you just have a bad race, you want to get back to the track and get going.”

Very glad the see Yates doing well with his small amount of sponsership. Have been a Yates and a Ford fan for years. Keep up the good work, see you in Indy. Scott Crowe Jasonville, In
