Even though he didn't get the finish he wanted last weekend, Michael Waltrip is feeling good after running strong at Talladega Superspeedway.

After all, he led four laps and was in contention to win until the end of the Aaron's 499 Sprint Cup race. “We really had a great day," Waltrip said this week.

"It was fun to race with Jimmie Johnson for most of the day. I made a half-hearted effort to make a run at the front after starting 27th. "I got up there early on and realized it wasn’t going to work, so I went to the back, and who did I find back there? Jimmie Johnson. We raced together all day long and coming to the white flag, there we were racing for the win."

But instead of winning, Waltrip ended up losing an engine on the final lap. He finished 27th.

"Talladega was one race where I know we had a really good chance at the win," he said. "All I needed to run was one more lap, and we would have won the race. We’re getting over it, and we’ll go to Richmond and try to persevere.”

Richmond International Raceway is the site of Saturday's Crown Royal 400 race. Even though Waltrip has never been to the Cup victory lane at the .75-mile track, he has a good idea of what it takes to get there. And it's more than running all day.

“When the race starts at Richmond, you will see guys up high," he said. "You will see guys down low. Inevitably, the guy that is going to win the race will be on the bottom."

I never heard the term "walnut." It is great--I'm one, too! I hope Mikey had a happy 45th birthday yesterday.

Add another Wal-nut to the bowl! I was soo hoping that he would get his victory at Dega, but it was not to happen.I just wish he could catch a break somewhere.... I have always said I will follow Mikey no matter what he drives, pushes or pedals~!! I can tell you that he will get his victory and when he does the Wal-nutz will go crazy!! Maybe he'll win at Pocono so I can be there to celebrate the victory:) Hello to my fellow Wal-nutz!! GO MWR!!! Victory is in our future..
