General Discussion » Toyota recall includes 3.8 million cars sold in the USA

David Starr’s reunion with Red Horse Racing ended up lasting just as long as his first stay with the organization: one season.
Starr, who rejoined the NASCAR Truck Series team for 2008 after leaving the group at the end of 2006, confirmed Friday that he has parted ways with the team and hopes to have another ride in place as early as next week.
Starr says he and Red Horse co-owner Tom DeLoach mutually agreed to part ways after a sponsor that came on board Starr's No. 11 Toyota for six races near the end of last season indicated it could provide primary backing on Starr’s truck for fewer than 10 races in 2009.
Starr says he will carry the sponsorship with him to another team, where he hopes another backer can pick up the remaining races so that he can run the full season.
“Hopefully, we’ll be racing full time with a good team, but right now I have options,” Starr said in a phone interview on Friday afternoon. “I haven’t chosen which way we’re going to go yet.”
Starr said he has spoken with four Truck teams and hopes to remain in the Toyota camp, although he has talked to at least one team tied to another manufacturer.
In his two seasons at Red Horse, Starr won one race – at Martinsville in spring 2006. The Houston, Texas, native placed a career-best fourth in points during his first stint with Red Horse but fell to 12th this past season.
“I’m disappointed,” Starr said of his most recent breakup with the team. “I really thought I found a home for a long time at Red Horse, but it’s just the turn in the economy, you know. It’s just the way the economy is. It changes things.”

Jan 11, 2009 at 12:22 AMAaron Fike coming back? What a joke! Are you kidding me? He hasn't even be allowed back to race yet in nascar. If Aaron drives again in any series it's because his Daddy will put up the money.

Jan 11, 2009 at 8:36 PMAaron Fike got a lifetime ban. Whether that proves true or not, we will see. But I don't think he'll be back in NASCAR for a while, and especially not now. Shane Hmiel got a lifetime ban from NASCAR and hasn't been allowed back: and that was years before Fike got his.
Report as AbuseI am kinda surprised that teams are still thinking they will be able to get sponsorship beyond what they have. 10 races of sponsorship SHOULD be enough to run more than 10 races. At least you would think anyway. It's like Mike Skinner said (via terrible paraphrasing): Whereas a year ago any sponsorship under $3 million was laughable, you're just happy to get $500 thousand now. It's to a point now where a team really should be able to make 10 races of sponsorship (40% of a season!) last at least the 10 races, or more. I could understand a brand new team needing more to cover all the start-up costs, but not a well established team.
