Officials from The Home Depot, which has sponsored Tony Stewart through all 10 years of his NASCAR Cup career, had only nice things to say in the wake of Stewart's announcement Wednesday that he is leaving Joe Gibbs Racing and The Home Depot isn’t coming with him.
Stewart, sources have said, will become co-owner of Haas CNC Racing, and Stewart is negotiating with Office Depot and Old Spice as sponsors for 2009.
Stewart has had tumultuous moments in his career, but The Home Depot stuck with him throughout.
“The Home Depot has had a remarkable relationship with Tony Stewart and Joe Gibbs Racing since our sponsorship commenced back in 1998,” said Frank Bifulco, chief marketing office for the home improvement chain. “With two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championships and 32 race wins, Tony is a true competitor and an excellent ambassador for our company.”
Bifulco said in the statement that the company’s future plans “will be announced at a later date.” The Home Depot’s contract with JGR runs through next season.

Jul 9, 2008 at 6:47 PMI don't think Home Depot will go with him but sure do hate the thought of losing all my orange. Regardless, I will go where Smoke goes. I would love to see him get Dave Rogers as a crew chief. He has so much talent he needs to go to Sprint Cup.

Aug 10, 2008 at 2:06 AMI'm keeping the orange #20 stuff up, but am making room for the new colors and number. I love the new paint schemes on his 2009 Chevys. I never looked that good in orange anyway, on to bigger and better things.
