Terry Cook lands Cup ride with new team
Terry Cook, a veteran in the Truck series, will drive for new Sprint Cup team Whitney Motorsports in 2010, the team announced Friday.
The 41-year-old Cook, who has never competed at the Cup level, will drive the No. 46 Dodge. Veteran Cup mechanic Buddy Sisco will be the crew chief. Officials are still seeking sponsorship.
“It’s always been my goal to advance my career to the pinnacle of our sport,” said Cook, who has six wins in 314 career Truck starts. “I am very grateful to [team owner] Dusty Whitney for giving me this amazing opportunity.”
The team has no owner points from 2009 and will have to qualify its way into at least the first five races.
Whitney has been involved in NASCAR since 2007, fielding a car in the Nationwide Series for driver Brian Keselowski. The team’s Cup cars will come from Richard Petty Motorsports, which is changing from Dodge to Ford entries as it merges with Yates Racing.
“I love a good challenge,” Whitney said. “Success in business comes from setting high goals and achieving them. There is no bigger challenge in motorsports than to be a successful Sprint Cup Series team owner.”
