TALLADEGA, Ala. - Talladega Superspeedway plans to begin work on a two-phase $13 million grandstand renovation project immediately following Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Amp Energy 500.

The track plans to replace more than half of the grandstand seating with larger seats and wider aisles. The project is expected to be completed in time for the April 25 race weekend. The rest of the seats will be replaced prior to the fall 2010 race weekend.

“This will be a fantastic upgrade for our frontstretch grandstand customers,” said Talladega Superspeedway President Rick Humphrey.  “The new seats are much more comfortable and the wider aisles will be easier to get in and out of during trips to the concession stand.  It’s a big project for us and I’m sure the fans can’t wait for us to get started.”

The first phase from the Gadsden grandstands in Turn 4 through Section C of the OV Hill South grandstands in the trioval. New 21-inch seats with armrests and cupholders will replace the current 17-inch seats with aisles being widened from 36 to 48 inches.

The track also plans to reduce ticket prices for the upcoming races. Single-day seats in the Gadsden, Lincoln, Anniston and Talladega Towers have been reduced to $95 from $120 while two-day tickets in the Allison Grandstands have been reduced to $49 from $60.  For more information, visit www.talladegasuperspeedway.com.

Hmmm, judging by all the empty seats at the track today, makes sense that they'd replace the grandstands with larger seats and wider aisles - reduces the amount of seats that nobody seems to want to buy anymore... Sad.

And why did they make the aisles bigger, Jeff? As it says in the article, "To make it easier to go to the concession stands." Nice to know they dont care how comfortable we are, but how easy it will be to spend more money on concessions.

The reason you have all these empty seats is because your bragging Toyota constantly. Never mentioning the other 3 manufacturers just Toyota! Maybe some of us get sick and tired of listening to the announcers on TV or the network radios. This currently would have been our 5th year at Talladega but you had to change the date; and now you won't let the drivers race the way they should be able to or exciting for the fans. So...I'm sure last year was probably our last race to attend at Talladega ! I'm pretty sure the drivers weren't happy either today--that's why they drove single file for 100 laps ! DA !

#3 - So you didn't attend the race today because the media talks about Toyota too much for your taste? LOL That's really the reason???

knock that 33 degree banking down to 14 or 17 degrees so they can use some skill racing there and then you might see more seats filled up and then you could take about 15 rules out of the books that you wouldn't have to police

Leave the grandstands alone. If you gonna change something remove the restrictor plates then we'll see some RACING. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE FAST, THAT'S WHY THEY CALL IT RACING, NOT SUNDAY AFTERNOON SNOOZEFEST.

One bright spot in this NASCAR downturn is that NASCAR can return to North Wilkesboro and not have to expand on it's 60,000 seating capacity. Move one Talladega race there and send the other one to Darlington. Funny how ISC can find money to make it easier for fans to get to the concession stands (owned by Americrown, a NASCAR company) but not to make the racing better by fixing the track.

Never mind the grandstand. Fix the track so they don't need restrictor plates. It's not worth the drive anymore just to see exciting racing for five laps. And here's a clue - when the racing is good, no one wants to go to the concessions. Duh.

Notice to #2 (BEEFJERKYSKI): The seats are to be bigger (21 inch instead of 17 inch) for the fans to be more comfortable. Can't you read? the aisles will be wider not only so I can get out safely to go to the concession stand but also to go to the restroom without stepping on other people's feet. Don't be a negative, jerky poster. They do all they can to make us more comfortable in every way. Stay home if you don't think so.

LOL....Rick I am sure your well intended, but after Sunday's spectacle consider cots or hammocks, much better for snoozing, also try room service.Maybe let drivers Freshen up a bit prior to last 20 laps, much better for TV,since the race certainly was'nt.LOL one more thing, get a muzzle for Pemberton, since he does'nt believe Rule change NO#9009,had nothing to do with an ordinary boring race. Thanks for the new changes, but somehow I think the old ways seemed to work just fine.Have a lovely day

I have always loved the racing at DEGA! I'm not sure what should be done, but definitely something. There are wrecks at every track. And just think, now you can buy those seats that have been there for forty years for 99.00 each! Thanks, but no thanks.
