TNT’s coverage of Sunday’s Lenox Industrial Tools 301 from New Hampshire Motor Speedway earned a 4.1 cable rating, making it the first NASCAR Sprint Cup race this season to post a ratings increase over 2008, Street & Smiths’s SportsBusiness Daily reports.

The rating was 2.5 percent higher than the 4.0 cable rating the 2008 race earned for TNT.

The Daily’s Austin Karp also reports that the race averaged 5.555 million viewers, up 1.1 percent from last year’s 5.495 million viewers, making it the first race this season to gain more viewers.

Through four Sprint Cup races to date, TNT is averaging a 4.0 cable rating and 5.502 million viewers, down 4.8 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively, from a 4.2 rating and 5.715 million viewers last year.

Well, simply put: evidently more people had their TV's tuned to TNT that afternoon. They could have been out playing golf, driving their car, sleeping, etc. It's just that their TV's happened to be tuned to that particular station at that time, there is NO proof that one person let alone 5.5 Million individual viewers actually watched that particular NASCAR race as apparently reported.

We all hear ratings are down and everyone has their opinion. Announcers, commercials, etc. Why not ask the fans who stopped watching Nascar what their reason is. I haven't watched a live race for the past two years, expect the ones I have attended. I have Dish network and a DVR. About an hour or so after the race starts I turn it on and with the power of one button pass all the commercials. Nascar should give all fans a DVR.

I agree Chevelle. I, too, dvr the race. I do not like the commercials and all the chatter before the race.
I channel surf and evidently view the race.

Maybe it was Jr. or maybe it was Kasey that the viewers tuned in to see how they would do in NH. I for one am sorely disappointed that the race was called because of rain, because the two mentioned would have had a much better finish than what they got. Granny D
