Sporting News’ 60 Most Beautiful People: No. 57, Jeff Burton
In 60 years of NASCAR racing, the sport has been filled with colorful characters. This year, Sporting News decided to craft a list of the sport's 60 Most Beautiful People.
The selections were made as a result of nominations sent in by readers and NASCAR fans to the Sporting News' publications and Web sites.
The list was finalized and published in a special edition, which is now available on newsstands and at the online store at streetandsmiths.com. SceneDaily is running the list, with one person from the top 60 to be featured each day.
Today's installment features No. 57, Jeff Burton.
As one of the sport's most consistent drivers, Jeff Burton has been busy chasing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship again‚ having finished sixth in his third consecutive appearance in what is now known as the Chase For The Sprint Cup.
Still, there's something about the humble Virginian that made fans support his inclusion on this list.
Burton began his career racing go-karts in his hometown of South Boston, Va. After two state championships, he switched to racing cars. This season, Burton caught a break at Bristol Motor Speedway and won the Food City 500, his first win of the season.
With the help of his wife, Kim, who also appears on this list, he may get there. After all, her presence has been synonymous with his success.
The two met when they were just teenagers. According to his wife, Burton hollered at her through the passenger seat of his brother's car while she was riding her bicycle down Main Street in South Boston one day.
He obtained her phone number from his next-door neighbor and, after a lengthy phone conversation, they agreed to meet at the next high school football game. Jeff rode a bicycle to meet her at the game.
Since then, she's tagged along to most of his races, including his go-kart events when he was 15.
