In 60 years of NASCAR racing, the sport has been filled with colorful characters. This year, Sporting News decided to craft a list of the sport's 60 Most Beautiful People.

The selections were made as a result of nominations sent in by readers and NASCAR fans to the Sporting News' publications and Web sites.

The list was finalized and published in a special edition, which is now available on newsstands and at the online store at streetandsmiths.com. SceneDaily is running the list, with one person from the top 60 to be featured each day.

Today's installment features No. 32, Nicole Manske.

Nicole Manske says she was the farthest thing from a “racing girl” while growing up in Wisconsin.

“My family was into football - (and) watching the Green Bay Packers,” says Manske, the host of ESPN’s “NASCAR Now”.

In fact, Manske was thrown headfirst into racing as a young sportscaster at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, where she quickly developed a fascination for the Indianapolis 500.

“I lived, ate, breathed, slept (at) the track,” recalls Manske, who also served as a pit reporter for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network.

“Because I was so immersed in it, I fell in love with it.”

Now, for the former Miss Illinois and semifinalist in the 1998 Miss Teen USA Pageant, covering NASCAR is much more than a job - it’s a passion.

“I’m never going to be an engine girl and tell you the parts of the car, but I love the pageantry of the sport,” she says.

That atmosphere enlivens her as she talks about her favorite race track, Bristol Motor Speedway, which may be NASCAR’s version of the Packers’ Lambeau Field.

“I went to my first Bristol night race this year,” she says. “The first lap, I sat outside in Victory Lane and I sent about 20 e-mails to my friends who really aren’t NASCAR fans. I told them one time you’re going to come to Bristol and experience something great. It’s like a football stadium with thousands of fans looking down.”

Since this is called The 60 most beautiful people, let's put them in bikinis and swimtrunks and let the compete like beauty padgets. Makes about as much sense as puting people we, the NASCAR fans, don't know about in the list. Some of these people I've never heard of. Some I have, but wouldn't call them beautiful.

so Let's see if I got this right. She's popular amongst a "local viewing" audition and that's about it. This 60 most beautiful people is a friggin' joke. 99% of the people you listed so far aren't really know by anybody. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the embarrasment, nip this in the bud and try to save "Scene Daily'S" reputation. Your more like a rag mag instead of a racing publication after this one. How many people have given you any good feedback on this? All I keep seeing are people who haven't a clue as what the heck your talking about. And you want subscription's. I'll go back to spiderman and superman first.

BTW - Shouldn't there be a link to a video to show her talent portion of the competition of the Miss NASCAR Scene Daily?

I thought the MOST BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE were to be people who did very good deed throughout the year and really don't want to be in the "limelight" so to speak for doing so. I'm not against all the people that were chosen, I'm just against the positions they were put in. First and second??? give me a break.

I don't think The Sporting News has anything to do with Scene Daily. I guess Scene was just trying to give people something to read (and complain about) in the off season. But I do think that Scene needs to make their own list with real NASCAR people, ones who make a difference.

I think this is a good idea, gives us something to read about instead of all the same old s--- about cars and drivers and tracks any fan already knows all about. I think the next thing should be a story on each drivers wife or girl friend, so we could get to feel like we know them better than we do. some human intrest stories is good for the soul.

I've often wondered who picks her wardrobe for the show. I makes her look rather thick. She looks fine in this picture. If you don't get NASCAR NOW you won't be familiar with her. I don't know many of the picks so far.

For those of you who claim they don't know very many of the 60 MBP in Nascar so far, about all I can say is, "where have you been?" You must not be watching any of the TV programs or even the races, because these picks are NOT hiding! And if you are sick and tired of this, why are you still reading the articles??? May I suggest you find something else to entertain your brain during the off season?

Sporting News Nascar'a 60 most beautiful is now officially a shame. As I have said before; with all the characters, drivers, mechanics, fans, etc. over the past 60 years you include some chick that gets paid to report on Nascar. Oh I forgot, she's HOT.

If you don't watch Nascar Now on ESPN you are missing a great show. Hard questions and good interviews. Nicole does a great job with Boris.
