At least 17 active NASCAR drivers are lining up to work an upcoming telethon for NASCAR Day, which will be observed Friday.
The drivers will man the phones of the NASCAR Day Telethon, through which fans can speak with their favorite drivers and make a donation to a charitable cause.
Drivers expected to participate on Friday include Sprint Cup drivers AJ Allmendinger, Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Casey Mears, Juan Pablo Montoya, Ryan Newman, Kyle Petty, Elliott Sadler and Brian Vickers, Craftsman Truck Series driver Scott Lagasse Jr. and television personality Hermie Sadler. On Saturday, Cup drivers Kyle Busch, David Gilliland, Travis Kvapil and truck driver Marc Mitchell are scheduled to take part. Friday’s session is scheduled for 5 a.m to 6 p.m. EDT with the Saturday appearances from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Pledges can be made by calling 1-888-May16TH (1-888-629-1684) or texting your e-mail address to 81714. Pledges will be taken from NASCAR Day through May 19. Fans will be helping the more than 30 driver, team and track charities that the foundation supports year-round. Fans also have the ability to designate their entire donation to one of the charities under The NASCAR Foundation Family of Charity umbrella.
NASCAR Day began in 2004. Since that time, more than $4.5 million has been raised for charity.
