Arizona senator John McCain has been named the grand marshal for the Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway on Nov. 15.

McCain also served as grand marshal for the Cup series’ visit to the track in April 2006.

"I'm thrilled to serve as the grand marshal for the NASCAR race on Sunday," said McCain, who entered the U. S. Senate in 1987 following four years as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Arizona's first Congressional District.

McCain will appear on the prerace ceremonies stage with PIR President Bryan R. Sperber to welcome NASCAR fans, drivers and teams to the race. McCain will deliver the command to start the engines.
