Scott Riggs to drive for Tommy Baldwin Racing

Tommy Baldwin Racing announced Monday that Scott Riggs will drive the new organization’s No. 36 Toyota for the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season.
A sponsor has not been named for the car.
Baldwin, who most recently worked as a Cup crew chief at Bill Davis Racing before announcing the formation of his new team earlier this month, will work as Riggs’ crew chief in addition to his role as team owner.
The team plans to run a full schedule.
“Having Scott Riggs on board is a huge stepping stone for Tommy Baldwin Racing,” Baldwin said in a team release. “He’s a top caliber driver, and I look forward to seeing the success we can have together.”
Riggs spent the 2008 Cup season at Haas CNC Racing but was left without a ride when new co-owner Tony Stewart took a 50 percent ownership role in the organization, set to debut in 2009 as Stewart-Haas Racing, and named himself and Ryan Newman as its drivers.
“I look forward to working with Tommy,” Riggs said. “I think we can work together to build something really strong. I feel fortunate to work with someone like Tommy who has so much experience.”

Jan 19, 2009 at 4:34 PMAt least someone picked him up, I guess. Now Tommy needs to go and court Hunt Brother's Pizza and State Water Heaters, who said they were looking to stay in Cup as a sponsor. They were Rigg's sponsors last year, so it might be a way to entice them.

Jan 19, 2009 at 8:38 PMHey Andrew. Could be Hunts and State will announce later, but this may be the exact reason Riggs got the ride anyway. Not that he isn't a good driver, but now more than ever, money talks.
