Ken Schrader will attempt to qualify the No. 96 Hall of Fame Racing entry for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Sharpie 500 this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The team released J.J. Yeley prior to the race weekend at Watkins Glen earlier this month. P.J. Jones drove for the team at The Glen, then Brad Coleman drove the car last week at Michigan. Coleman has a contract with the team and is expected to be the primary driver for the rest of the year.
“Ken Schrader has a lot of experience at Bristol and we felt with as competitive as the field will be this weekend, he gives us the best chance to be successful,” said Tom Garfinkel, co-owner of Hall of Fame Racing. “Brad Coleman will test for us next week at Kansas Speedway [in a Goodyear tire test] and we plan on having Brad compete in more races throughout the remainder of the year. We look forward to working with Brad as he continues to gain experience at the Sprint Cup level.”
The No. 96 team is outside the top 35 in owners points and Schrader will have to make the race on qualifying speed.

Aug 19, 2008 at 3:47 PMWay to go Kenny, I'll be rooting for the #96 all weekend. I wish somebody would hire him so I have someone to root for on Sun.

Aug 19, 2008 at 3:55 PMI guess they are not going to be patient and groom the kid for next year. They are already going to the old guys. Coleman qualified outside pole for JGR at Bristol last year in NNS and I guess that isn't enough. How will he get to that level if they don't put him in the car and give him some time? HOF opted for PJ Jones at Watkins Glen...another dumb call by HOF. Coleman finished 10th in the NNS race at The Glen, PJ was 38th. Here they go again. Who is making the decisions at that team? Must be a baseball guy. Strike two.

Aug 19, 2008 at 5:43 PMI don't disagree with you Charles, I like Brad, he seems like a nice kid with a good amount of talent. However, I understand HOF's position on this, especially trying to get in the top 35 of owner points. Yes almost 300 points out of 35th seems unreasonable at this stage, but if Coleman can just keep his nose clean for the last 12 races and let Kenny handle Bristol (where he is exceptionally good-almost WON Bristol in a BAM car several years ago), I think that's a good plan.

Aug 20, 2008 at 4:20 PMThey maybe wanting give him a chance to run for rookie of the year next year. So by using some of the older guys to fill in a few of the races will keep his numbers below 6 races for the season. I also agree with Patricia, maybe he could learn something from Kenny.
