maybe he is tired of being a P/C poster child like hid Daddy Jeff Gordon.
Ken Schrader will drive the Hall of Fame Racing No. 96 Sprint Cup car this weekend at Auto Club (Calif.) Speedway and next week at Richmond International Raceway and then will share the seat with 18-year-old Joey Logano.
Logano, who will drive the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 next year as a rookie, will attempt to qualify the No. 96 for the Sept. 14 race at New Hamsphire as well as Sept. 28 at Kansas, Oct. 11 at Charlotte, Oct. 18 at Martinsville and Nov. 2 at Texas.
“We appreciate Hall of Fame Racing helping us get Joey ready for 2009,” said J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing, which sells chassis and leases engines to Hall of Fame Racing. “They came to us with the idea before the August Michigan race and we think it’s a great win/win for all of us.”
Schrader will attempt to qualify the team’s car for the Sept. 21 race at Dover and the Oct. 5 event at Talladega. The team has not announced a driver for the Oct. 25 event at Atlanta or the final two 2008 races at Phoenix and Homestead.
Brad Coleman, who has been under contract as a test driver for Hall of Fame Racing since November 2007, will continue to test for the team in the coming weeks.
“Ken Schrader brings practical experience and stability to our race team that will help in a lot of ways,” said Hall of Fame Racing co-owner Tom Garfinkel. “Brad did a great job testing for us at Kansas this week [in a Goodyear test], and Ken will be an asset to Brad as we continue to get him more laps in a Sprint Cup car.”
Mentioned Drivers: Joey Logano

Aug 27, 2008 at 8:52 PMIs it just me or did Brad Coleman get shafted in this whole deal.It sounded as though he would be the interim driver of the 96 for the rest of the year, almost an audition.Gave up his ride in the #27 NNS because of it,and now he sits home for 7 of the next 12 weeks? Wow.

Aug 27, 2008 at 9:20 PMHe will get to run for rookie of the year next year. but I agree he should have been allowed to finish his NNS ride through the year.

Aug 27, 2008 at 9:26 PMMaybe I'm going out on a limb, but wouldn't they get Coleman more laps by actually letting him race???

Aug 28, 2008 at 9:26 AMSure seems to be a lot of "special treatment" going on behind the scenes about Lagano for some reason and other drivers are getting shafted in the process. Looks like Gibbs is calling in a lot of favors. There has to be more to the story. I think they should all have to come up through the ranks and do the proper learning in the Nationwide before making it to Cup, at least one full season.

Aug 28, 2008 at 2:04 PMHall of Fame is running for their lives. They made a lot of bad decisions early and it is coming back to haunt them. It is common knowledge they are up for sale and just like two of their owners, Staubach and Aikman, they are scrambling! It's all about the money and JGR is paying for Lagano to be in the car. Good luck HOF...it looks like you are about to be sacked!

Aug 28, 2008 at 2:13 PMWho cares about Logano or Coleman....just glad to see Schrader back in a cup car, even if it is only part-time. Truthfully he could do those kids a lot of good. They can see how a racer's racer does it.

Aug 28, 2008 at 2:19 PMIts not like the Hall of Fame is the only ones moving their drivers around. Alot of teams are. Red Bull put Skinner in for a while. Now Michael is doing it with his team. Nobody seems to upset with that. Kyle Petty been in and out all year too. JGR cannot help that Tony decided to leave and they need a driver to take his place. And Joey needs some seat time and I find nothing wrong with what they are doing. Besides Hall of Fame wanted Joey not the other way around.

Aug 28, 2008 at 3:34 PMLogano should drive in Busch, I mean Nationwide, for at least a year. I wonder which "Chaser" Logano takes out first. Now they have another to be concerned about. Let's see R. Gordon, Hornish, Carpentier, and Logano. If I'm a "Chaser" I do all I can to stay clear of these drivers.

Aug 28, 2008 at 4:01 PMMy guess is DLP had a whole bunch to say about getting Joey in the car. They'll get a ton of TV time because it's the new phenom in the car.

Aug 28, 2008 at 4:24 PMTo Debbie Webb et al...... The article contains a quote from JD Gibbs “They came to us with the idea before the August Michigan race and we think it’s a great win/win for all of us.” Does Gibbs Racing think everyone is stupid. I am sure that HOF Racing did not approach JGR and offer the ride. More like JGR approached HOF and said "would you like to continue getting engines and chassis? Then let our boy borrow your team for 5 races."

Aug 28, 2008 at 6:57 PMLogano beat up HOF cars (not Gibbs. Gibbs sells HOF replacements. Sounds like profitable business to me.

Aug 28, 2008 at 9:36 PMI think that a veteran driver should drive the car for a few races, but Brad Coleman should be given the chance to gain experience behind the wheel of the 96 car. You can't do that with testing alone. Once again, Joey Logano is the cause of Brad Coleman losing his ride. I feel bad for him because he was promised the world and then got nothing in return. There is too much hype around Joey, and drivers with much better attitudes are shafted. Brad deserves a chance, too.

Aug 28, 2008 at 10:25 PMOf course Logano will get one of the JGR cars with #96 slapped on it instead of the tired old dog #96 from HOF!

Aug 29, 2008 at 7:07 AMLet's not forget one thing: The #96 is outside the top 35 in owner points so there is no guarantee that Logano will even qualify for the races.

Aug 29, 2008 at 10:40 AMI'm really sorry but i see nothing so great about joey. Sure he seems like a nice guy and can drive a car but thats it. I love seeing Kenny back wish he had a full time ride in Cup. I will never understand why teams pick a kid over these veterns. Kenny lives for racing and he is good. He would be welcomed with open arms by most of the fans if he had a cup ride on a regular basis. Joey really needs to stay in nationwide another year.
