Three-time NASCAR Cup race winner Elliott Sadler has signed a multiyear contract extension with Gillett Evernham Motorsports.

The 33-year-old Sadler, in his 10th season of full-time Cup competition, joined what was then known as Evernham Motorsports during the summer of 2006.

“This is the place where I want to race,” Sadler said in a statement issued by the team. “I think what we are building here is special and something other drivers and crew members envy.”

In addition to Sadler’s No. 19 Dodge, Gillett Evernham also fields Cup teams for drivers Kasey Kahne and rookie Patrick Carpentier.

Sadler heads into Sunday’s Best Buy 400 Cup race at Dover International Speedway 25th in points. He scored his second top-10 finish of the season when he finished eighth in Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

“Elliott is a well-respected driver who has the skills, both on and off the track, to succeed in NASCAR,” said Tom Reddin, CEO for Gillett Evernham Motorsports.

“In addition to being a great Sprint Cup driver, Elliott has a wonderful personality that attracts fans and sponsors who love working with him. We have enjoyed working with Elliott over the last year and a half and look forward to continuing our relationship.”

Sadler scored his first Cup win at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2001 while driving for Wood Brothers Racing. He also managed a pair of wins, at Texas and Fontana, Calif., while driving for Robert Yates Racing and finished a career-best fourth in the point standings in 2004.

He has 333 career Cup starts and more than $35 million in career winnings. He also has five career wins in what is now known as the
Nationwide Series.

Financial terms of the agreement were not released.

This is what racing has come to folks... Sad...so very sad....The next time any of you feel the urge to BLAME Nascar, or foreign manufacturers, or Kyle Busch, or pick your excuse, for the downfall of stock-car racing, maybe....just maybe.... take a few seconds and ponder the comment written above.

The comment from anonymous is not what is wrong with NA$CAR. When the green stuff, otherwise known as money, became more important than racing, and the NEW fans decided that true racing wasn't exciting enough so that FOX was the best thing since sliced bread, and the tracks became cookie cutters, not tracks that needed drivers that knew their cars and how to set them up, and cookie cutter cars became so alike that AERO was the buzz word of the day, and that isn't even considering the COT, that is when NA$CAR lost what we used to call THE MOST EXCITING RACING IN THE WORLD. And I apoligize, I am a woman and have watched almost every race the early 80's. Ancient fan

What planet am I on?? Kae Sawyer....with all due respect mam....we are arguing the SAME THING! (at least on your first point that is) 'Anonymous' is APPLAUDING a situation where a decision was made to sign a driver for his ability to SELL products and be a spokesman OVER his ability to WIN races. I see this as a disturbing trend and a major cause of the "problem"! AND ASSUMING THAT YOUR COMMENTS....."when the green stuff...became more important than racing" mean what i think they mean, then aren't we on the same page here? I do DISAGREE with another thing you said though....I don't care if you've been following racing for twenty years or twenty DAYS, nobody should EVER APOLOGIZE for having an opinion!!!!! Have a good weekend.
