Conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh was talking about Vice President candidate Sarah Palin, the current governor of Alaska, on Fox News’ On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.
And what he had to say Tuesday might not please many NASCAR fans.
“Oh, I like Governor Palin. I mean, she's refreshing. I think she's real. … She's – you know, this – we have a polarization in this country not just of conservative, liberal, Democrat, Republican. We also have a polarization in this country of elites versus average people,” Limbaugh said on the show, according to a transcript on Fox News’ Web site. “The elites think they're the smart people and they think Sarah Palin's a hayseed hick. She may as well be on the NASCAR circuit.”
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston issued a comment on Limbaugh’s remarks:
"Obviously, Mr. Limbaugh hasn't spent much time with our drivers or fans," Poston said. "NASCAR drivers and fans represent the best of America whether they are from small towns or big cities."

WHATEVER man.... Anyway, on a related note, I did hear that if Obama is elected, that he will re-arrange the Chase points system next year so that teams placing in the top ten will have to give 40% of their hard-earned points to the cars that placed in the bottom ten. In the interest of "fairness" of course!!!! I look for Michael Waltrip to have a great year next season under this system!!! SCARY.......

Oct 30, 2008 at 9:10 AMYou guys should re-read what he is saying. He's saying that the liberals are pegging her like that. He's saying that they're insinuating that she might as well be in Nascar. Right now, you're making an excellent case for the name.
Report as AbuseSecondly, you idiots that think Obama taxing the people who are making $250,000 is a good idea needs a little lesson. If you tax those people, sure, you may get their money, but how will they make up the tax loss? Oh, that's right. They'll fire the little guy who doesn't need to be there so they can save that bit. And/or they will raise the money of the goods and/or services they provide. So what happens? Yes, not only does someone lose their job, but the money you just got from those guys is going right back into their pocket because they raised the prices of things you need. And don't be an idiot, just because someone makes $250,000 doesn't mean they live on easy street. If they have a nice business, they have to pay for the place their business is located. They have to pay their employees. They have to pay for the stuff they sell to you. So they may technically clear $250,000 or above, but they certainly aren't bringing it home. Oh, and if Obama becomes president, will you demand he pay the same taxes? Because he certainly won't be taxing himself like he's taxing Americans who dare to make a little more (and he'll make more than them).

People are influenced by the people they hang around with and listen to. I have to say for someone who has come out of the northwoods, is Sarah not one of us? We have had those in office that supposedly had all the answer and many of you can atest to that in this momment. For a small group of people (drivers)they certainly have influenced main stream American. They have influenced white, black, rich, poor, rednecks, businesmen, Congressmen etc etc etc. We don't want government in our business and we don't want our taxes raised. Oct 30, 2008 at 6:14 PMSorry, but when it comes to running the country, elitisim is absolutely necessary, and there were a number of Republicans, including some women, who were smarter and better-qualified to be VP. Instead, McCain picked a woman who spends $150K on her wardrobe, and then goes out on stage and tries to convince us that she's just a struggling middle-class working parent. It's been absolutely insulting to Americans. And I don't like Obama (I'll be voting Libertarian), but McCain's campaign has been vile. Disagree with your opponent, present your alternatives, but be respectful, and more importantly, HONEST! I used to support McCain, and it's been sad to watch him lose every last ounce of dignity.

When they succeed, I say they deserve EVERY DOLLAR THEY GET. How dare the government step in an tell them that they have earned too much!!! That's a leftist, socialist and even close to marxist viewpoint.
Government should be small, the people shoud be free to eran as much as they can through their own sweat equity.
Basically, liberals are just lazy. Looking for a hand-out from some hard working business owner.
Our founding fathers NEVER intended on redistributing the wealth.
Work for what you want. It's really a simple prospect.

I have heard and read all the urban legions re: Senator Obama"s orgin of birth and have come to the conclusion its all propaganda, our government may be in a mess but I have to believe that he could not have become a U.S. Senator nor run for the presidency if he was not a citizen! Go #88!!

Oct 30, 2008 at 11:20 PMI guess I am an elitist, too, because I went to a liberal arts college in my home state, which happens to be in the South. I love NASCAR. I don't think racing is as black and white anymore, and it certainly shouldn't be poltical. I think what's great about NASCAR is that so many different types of people DO enjoy it. And it is becoming more integrated. Brad Daugherty owns a team and there are many people on pit crews who are black. Juan Pablo Montoya is Hispanic. I think NASCAR is very inclusive. I also think that a lot of these so-called political pundits say just what they think will make them more money. Who knows what they really believe, because as usual, it all comes down to money.
Report as AbuseAnd here's one tidbit that may interest some people - Junior Johnson is supporting Obama. I get e-mail and snail mail from both sides, and one was from Junior Johnson. I couldn't believe it, but it just shows that there is so much diversity in opinions among fans, drivers, etc. And that is one thing we all have in common - we are fans, and that should override anything else.
So, I'll say, make sure you vote no matter who your candidate is!

Oct 31, 2008 at 7:14 AMGuys, I've listened to Rush for years and he continuously DEFENDS heartland America which fills the stands at NASCAR events! In discussing Palin, Rush was also defending NASCAR against the put downs from the elite left. If you hate Rush then that’s fine. Just know he doesn’t hate you!

Oct 31, 2008 at 11:27 AMMan Oh Man, where do I start. Nascar fans are no smarter or dumber than any other segment of society. It's obvious that folks read (or hear) what they want to read (or hear). You can take anyone out of context. What Rush said was correct. There are lot's of folks that believe that Sarah Palin is a Dumb Redneck. The folks that believe that as far as I can see pretty much believe that about Nascar fans as well. I understand that the economy is bad. It's bad for everyone, but you must have been hiding under a rock for the past eight years if you don't think that Democrats had as much to do with this as Republicans. There's lot's of blame to toss around. The do nothing Democratic Congress deserves the at least half of the blame. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden, John Murtha, Barney Frank, Charles Shumer, have sat on their butts and done nothing for the past six years. They had opportunities to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, but they more interested in giving folks who normally couldn't qualify for a loan, money to throw away. I guess Jessie Jackson and Al Shaprton are laughing at how dumb we all are. President Clinton is on record saying that even he tried to controll those two organizations, but couldn't because only the Republicans were willing to vote with him. Vote for who you want to. We really don't have any great choices. Obama and Palin don't have enough experience to hold to Office of President or Vice President. Biden and McCain both have lot's of experience, but I'm not sure either will make a good leader in the Executive Branch. I am more afraid of Obama than McCain, so I guess that's where I'll vote. I'll stop preaching cause the bottom line is that I'm no smarter than the next guy. All I can do is give my opinion. Whatever happens, we have to get behind whoever is elected and stop all of this bickering, and get something done.

Nov 1, 2008 at 5:14 PMEd Clements, I aggree with you. Where do we go from here? Complete lack of co-operation between the parties ever since the Republicans took over office. We can't blame anyone because no one will accept responsibility so only One person will take the fall, (Bush). It will be his legacy that will suffer and for what? Because everyone forgets about one small thing that at one time brought the entire country to it's knees. You all know what I'm speaking of too. Well I think that there's one person that is proud to say that he was one that helped make a decision to defend OUR honor and uphold what makes us a great nation, and I'm voting for him. In case you haven't figured it out, it's NOT Obama.
Report as AbuseBlame, that's what the Dems are counting on as their trump card and that's their forum. It's apparent to me who Pockrass is endorsing. It's sensationalism, it's totally out of context, and it's cheap, as has been the entire election proceedure. But we take what we get and go on. What will be, will be. Talk is cheap and we're sure hearing a lot of it so I guess my little rant won't make any diff either.
None-the-less, I can see for myself that NASCAR racing fans are more attentive than our host is giving credit due. After all now that it's down to the end of the chase and my Tony is about to start his new venture, what else is there? Go Tony, Go McCain/Palin, and Rush, you go ahead and speak your mind, this is STILL a free country, Bush helped make sure of that!
