Officials with the Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America have announced the route for the 14th annual ride led by the veteran NASCAR driver.
The 2008 charity ride will kick off July 13 in Traverse City, Mich., and will include overnight stops in Elkhart Lake, Wis., Lombard, Ill., Lexington, Ky., White Sulfur Springs, W.Va., Charlotte, N.C., and Peachtree City, Ga., before ending in Savannah, Ga.
The ride will stop on July 17 at Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C., during a camp session to meet campers and tour the facility founded by Petty and his wife, Pattie. Money raised from the 2007 ride is allowing 80 children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses to attend the camp for free for the five-day session during which the ride stops at the camp.
"Pattie and I are constantly amazed and inspired by the dedication of our riders, sponsors and fans," Petty said in a news release. "These companies and individuals are truly committed to bettering the lives of deserving children and their families. We're looking forward to another great event -- and more incredible results!"
In its 14 years, the ride has raised more than $10.5 million for children's charities and has had 5,700 participants.
Fans and spectators along the ride route can support Victory Junction Gang Camp through the "Small Change. Big Impact." program. Donations from the 2007 program totaled more than $64,000.
