NASCAR Sprint Cup team owner/driver Robby Gordon slipped from second to seventh in the overall standings after the second day of the Central Europe Rally event organized by the promoters of the canceled Dakar Rally off-road event.
Gordon and his Team Dakar USA Hummer posted the 11th fastest time in the day's first special section, finishing four minutes, 43 seconds behind winner Stephan Peterhansel, in the event in Romania. He then finished 39 seconds behind winner Al Attiyah en route to a fourth-place finish in the second special.
Eighty-two cars are entered in the event.
"This was the first time the Hummers had seen anything like this," said Gordon. "The tracks were really muddy. There was snow, slippery rocks and it was very tight. Obviously it suited the four-wheel drive cars. Really we just wanted to finish in one piece. We did have some navigation challenges. ... As it stands right now with the stages being short like they are, it's going to be very difficult without help."
The event continues through Saturday, but Gordon says he plans to be in his Robby Gordon Motorsports Dodge for Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway.
