Robby Gordon has Camping World on car amid lawsuit
SONOMA, Calif. – Robby Gordon has obtained sponsorship for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 today at Infineon Raceway, and it’s come from some unlikely sources.
The driver/owner will have the logos of Camping World, King Taco and DLP on the car.
DLP comes over from Hall of Fame Racing, which failed to make the race with J.J. Yeley.
And while Camping World has been a sponsor before for Gordon, it was surprising to see it on the car considering the two sides are embroiled in a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in California.
The lawsuit, filed in March, contains allegations that Camping World reneged on an agreement to sponsor Gordon for four Cup races at $200,000 apiece in 2008. The company, in court documents, states that there was no agreement reached.
But it appears as if the companies are at least putting their disagreement on hold for a weekend.
In announcing the sponsorship of Camping World and King Taco, Gordon’s team doesn’t mention the lawsuit.
“While it was disappointing to show up here with a black race car, I’m very happy that Camping World and King Taco helped us out this weekend,” Gordon said in a statement. “We really appreciate them stepping up and sponsoring our team this weekend. We will do our best to win the race for them.”
In announcing DLP was moving over to the car, a company official stated it was a one-race deal.
“We appreciate the effort of Hall of Fame Racing to ensure that DLP HDTV will have a presence in Sunday’s race at Sonoma,” said Dave Duncan, sponsorship marketing manager, DLP Products, Texas Instruments. “We wish Robby the best of luck on Sunday and look forward to supporting J.J. Yeley … next week at New Hampshire.”
