Robby Gordon finishes second in Dakar Rally's 10th stage; 11th stage canceled
Robby Gordon led at the final checkpoint and beyond before being edged by event leader Carlos Sainz in stage 10 of the Dakar Rally Tuesday. He remains fifth overall with four stages remaining in the race.
Gordon, a NASCAR Sprint Cup team owner/driver, ran second in the stage and finished just 21 seconds behind the Spanish team that has dominated the recent legs of the Rally. The stage, which started and ended in Copiapo, Chile, was shortened slightly due to sand issues.
The performance leaves Gordon fifth overall in the Rally and trailing Sainz by 1 hour, 34 minutes and 38 seconds. He's only 21 minutes, 25 seconds behind the fourth-place team, though, and another 32 minutes behind the team in third.
The 11th stage was slated to carry teams from Copiapo, Chile to Fiambala, Argentina, but has been canceled due to concerns over the weather.
